"Larry Jones’ 42 foot Growing Dome in Kansas"

Here is the Sanctuary House 33' foot Growing Dome in Crestone Colorado.

Here at Sanctuary House we decided on a 33' diameter Growing Dome in order to provide food and medicinal herbs to our small community

Foundation work was started in January 2003. The dome was erected in 3 days by a small crew and Nick (supervisor from Growing Spaces) on the 17th of April.

The beds were then built using airblock (lightweight aerated concrete block)

On May 3rd we had a Permaculture workshop with Jerome from Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute who demonstrated the type of plants that would grow well and their preferred location

Nov, 24 2003, Winter is upon us and the garden is doing well, most plants are still growing even the artichoke, some that touch the glazing have frozen and have had to be trimmed back. Temp inside dome has gone from 38 at 9am to 80 at 12:30pm

Its April 26, 2004 now and the plants are going crazy, lotsa new growth, its amazing how most everything survived the winter even with a week of -20 degrees outside and no extra heat source in our Growing Dome.

Here are some recant photos for your web-site, a Kale tree thats taller than me.

this is a second season artichoke, so far this year we have eatten 3 chokes and their are 8 more on the plant.

and this is a new collection of man-eating plants... ok bug eatting plants.

we got these at the last home and garden trade show we went to, there really cool plants that will help control non-benificial insects like whitefly.
